We recently blogged about how to install Chrome OS on your netbook, but for those of you interested in an out-of-the-box Chrome netbook, Samsung might have the answer!

The guys over at the Dutch ChromeNieuws.nl website noted that a bug report had been submitted revealing information about a new Samsung notebook designed to run Chrome OS.

If this information is to be believed, the new Samsung Chrome laptop will have the following specification:

  • Be known as the Samsung Alex – this doesn’t sound like the normal Samsung branding so I would suspect this is a codename
  • Runs a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU
  • 1280 x 800 pixel screen, possibly 12.1″
  • Qualcomm Gobi 2000 wireless module for Bluetooth, WiFi, and 3G
  • 2GB of RAM,  SanDisk SSD, Synaptics TouchPad and Namuga webcam

Of course this is all speculation at this time so we’ll have to see what emerges down the time, we should hear more at the upcomming Google I/O event later this month.  It is thought that the “Samsung Alex” will appear over Summer.

It will be available in the Netherlands and US (and several other countries) on June 15, according to a Dutch computerblog (news in Dutch, but there’s an English video included). They’re promising 8 hours batterylife for the Samsung chromebook model.
