Samsung N110 UK Price Drop?

August 18, 2009

in Samsung N110

As mentioned in our forum, it seems that the N110 has dropped in price at PC World, Dixons etc and can now be bought for £329.99. We have long suspected that the price should creep downwards to replace the original NC10, perhaps this is the first sign.

Unfortunately the price of goods in the UK tends to be much more than the straight conversion price. Probably due to tax and that we are just used to paying more for stuff here. Bah!

do they charge you the VAT right away? 213 vs. 330 is quite a difference….we get to buy sales tax free(normally about 8-10%) if we
buy from out of state mail order company like Amazon for now but i think they are trying to change that….

Nice, similarly we can buy things from outside the UK tax free up to a certain limit, this is how places like manage to supply cheap CDs and DVDs. But after about £20 or so they charge import duty so they catch you anyway!

But yeah normally we pay VAT at point of sale so all shop prices will include the amount already. Currently this is 15% (normally 17.5% but lower at the moment due to economic crisis etc!).

But also people seem to sell things a bit higher here in the UK because they know we’re used to paying a bit more. Read more about rip off britain!

If you think Britain is expensive, try South America! My 12mp camera cost £60 less in Curry’s than it does either at Sao Paulo Duty Free or in Ciudad Del Este (the “duty free” zone in Paraguay).

And as for mobile phones and computers…. Jeez!!!
