This model actually came to light a couple of weeks ago but I am just catching up on some news that passed by whilst I was updating the site.

Samsung N230 Netbook

Unfortunately this model doesn’t represent any real innovation in the ultra portable world, perhaps the R&D guys are buys working on their tablet!

The Samsung N230 essentially appears to be a design update with the same specs we expect so see in models such as the N150 and N220:

  • Intel Atom N450 CPU
  • GMA 3150 graphics
  • 10.1 inch
  • 1024 x 600 display
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160GB HDD
  • Windows 7 Starter

So what is the difference between the N220/N210 and the N230?

To be honest there isn’t a huge difference, probably nothing that will be making you think that you just have to go for one versus another.

However I do think the N230 is the smartest looking amongst them thanks to its glossy lid, faux-aluminium palm rest, chrome hinges and a rimless chiclet keyboard.   It does seem to look more professional than some of the recent models.

Here’s hoping we’ll see some real innovation from our favourite netbook maker soon!

I think the innovation comes in the optional 66 w/hr battery, which give over 13.5 hours battery life….

Good point Ade, I hadn’t really picked up on that when I wrote the post. Looks like a few more details are coming through, including impending availability, so I’ll put up an update.

will the N230 have a memory upgrade to 2Gb. Needed to run Microsoft CRM

I would say that this is 99% certain. In fact, there might even be a version sold with 2gb as Samsung have just done this with the new NB30 “Pro”.
